It was still wet in the morning following the rains received the previous day. The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. Kuishi, Olorien, and Naleku grouped in one corner, while Bondeni and Lodo settled to share one pile of lucerne. Mukkoka teamed up with Musiara, who arrived in the wee hours of the morning and relaxed at the stockade compound until everyone else woke up. Mist covered the Ithumba Hill as the orphans made their way to the browsing field.
Later, there was tension when all of a sudden the orphans raised their trunks and started running towards the west. The Keepers intervened quickly, following them and communicating through reassuring whistles and calls. Luckily, the orphans met with ex-orphans Galla and Enkikwe, who helped the Keepers in calming down the situation. Their duty complete, Galla and Enkikwe parted ways with the orphans after wishing them a good day and luck ahead.
At mud bath time, only Lodo, Roho, Bondeni, and Olorien participated in mud bathing. The orphans then settled to browse in the Imenti area. Naleku settled to browse with Roho, as Bondeni decided to have a strength testing exercise with Esoit. Their exercise was cut short by Kuishi, who came and picked her favourite, Esoit, leaving Bondeni wondering what to do next. In the evening, Kinyei led the way back to the stockades.
The orphans settled for lucerne soon right leaving the stockades. Bondeni and Roho had a warm-up exercise in the form of a pushing game, while Mukkoka and Esoit had a scratching exercise on the nearby rocks. After having enough lucerne, Naleku led the way to the browsing field. The orphans settled in the Kone area. Later, Lodo and Roho, who love water so much, visited the Kone dam. After a drink, they jumped into the water for a cooling-off exercise.
On the way to the mud bath, Suguroi competed with Lodo to see who could get to the milk feed first. The light and athletic Suguroi emerged as the winner. After getting their milk, only Larro and Suguroi participated in mud bathing — it was as if they were celebrating their competition with a cool-off! The rest did their bush mud bath on the way back to the browsing field.
In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse east of Ithumba Hill. Mukkoka, Kuishi, Esoit, and Larro climbed up the hill, where they had a private browsing session. In the evening, the Keepers gathered the orphans in preparation to take them back to the stockade. The Keepers tried to call Kuishi to bring her team down, but she didn't respond. With no other option, they trudged up the hill. They found the four orphans happily browsing, unaware that it was time to go back home — or else it was just a trick Kuishi was playing, so they could stay out longer! Whichever the case, the jig was up and Keepers slowly led everyone back to the stockades.
The ex-orphans and their kids, comprising of Nasalot, Noah, Nusu, Tumaren, Tembo, Tusuja, Esampu, Naserian, Narok, Olsekki, and Pare, arrived at the stockade compound early at dawn. They waited until the orphans were let out and thereafter settled to share lucerne. Noah charged at Roho while threatening to push him. Roho didn't take this threat lightly and went for Noah, trying to teach him a lesson. Lucky enough, Noah's big brother Nusu was close by and rushed forward to defend him. Roho ran away when he saw Nusu approaching. Shortly later, the orphans left for browsing, leaving the ex-orphans behind.
The orphans settled to browse in the Kone area. Roho and Lodo visited the Kone dam for a drink and thereafter resumed browsing. On the way to the mud bath, Suguroi and Bondeni lagged behind. When they realised that their colleagues had disappeared to the mud bath, the duo decided to run to catch up with the team. Suguroi, who could easily be awarded a gold medal in an Olympics sprinting competition, overtook Bondeni as if he was stationary.
At mud bath time, the sun was hot, but surprisingly, the orphans were not in a wallowing mood, so they only took milk and water before returning to the browsing field. It was a quiet afternoon as the orphans concentrated on feeding throughout the remaining part of the day without any major observation. In the evening, Kindani and Kinyei spent some time scratching against trees before returning to the stockade.
Narok joined the orphans in the morning at the lucerne feeding venue. Narok had a brief meeting with Lodo, and it was not clear what the two were discussing. Shortly later, Sunyei, Siku, Saba, Sidai, Silas, Lenana, Lapa, Vuria, Kilabasi, Kofi, Esampu, and two wild boys arrived and joined the orphans in feeding on lucerne. Roho and Lapa had a misunderstanding that resulted in a fight. The fight was put off by Vuria, who intervened by separating the two boys. The competition for the lucerne became tight, so the orphans opted to give their seniors space. Naleku led the way to the browsing field.
At the browsing field, Kindani and Kinyei came across loose soil that they both used in a soil dusting exercise. Roho found a nice tree that he used to scratch his itching ear. Esoit teamed up with his favourite sister, Kuishi. Mutara's group, which had been away for a very long time, briefly joined the orphans and then left to team up with the other ex-orphans.
At mud bath time, the temperatures were moderate, and only Naleku, Sattao, Lodo, and Mukkoka participated in mud bathing. In the afternoon, Roho settled to browse with Bondeni, while Larro teamed up with Kuishi and Esoit. The rest of the day was quiet as the orphans browsed calmly without any major observation.
Nasalot, Noah, Tusuja, and Nusu joined the orphans in feeding on lucerne in the morning. Noah picked a fight with Roho. Later, the rascal Noah challenged Kinyei, but his game ended when he tried his challenges on Mukkoka. Mukkoka couldn't entertain this little boy's nonsense and taught him a lesson that would make him respect his seniors in the future. Noah ran to his mother when Mukkoka played rough on him. Tusuja decided to have fun by rolling on the ground. Roho took advantage of Tusuja by climbing on him. Tusuja stood up and engaged Roho in a heated argument, questioning why he had disrespected him by climbing on him. Roho played smart by apologising to Tusuja, understanding the consequences if Tusuja decided to attack him. Tusuja warned him not to repeat the mistake again. Roho nodded in agreement and left, fearing that Tusuja might change his mind and attack him.
At the browsing field, Mukkoka, Kuishi, Roho, Larro, and Sattao visited the Kone dam for an early drink. Later in the day, Lodo and Kinyei came across a water pan and decided to have an early mud bath before heading to the main one. Olorien teamed up with Mukkoka in browsing, while Sattao settled to browse with Bondeni.
At mud bath time, Narok passed by followed by a friend, and luckily enough, they headed north, giving the orphans enough time to conduct the mud bath activities. In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse between Imenti and Ithumba Hill. The remainder of the day was quiet as the orphans browsed calmly throughout without any major observation.
Narok and her boyfriend were at the stockade compound early in the morning. They joined the orphans soon after they were let out. Narok's boyfriend was a bit hesitant to join the orphans in feeding on lucerne. Later, he joined them when he noted that the Keepers were calm and not bothered about his presence. Kindani settled to scratch on her usual rock. After having enough lucerne, Naleku led the way to the browsing field. Sattao, Larro, Kuishi, and Esoit headed straight to the Kone dam where they had water before starting to browse. Suguroi and Kinyei joined them later and also had water. The orphans browsed slowly as they headed towards the mud bath. Roho and Sattao came across loose soil that they used for soil bathing.
At mud bath time, the orphans participated fully in the wallowing exercise, with the exception of Bondeni, who only decided to wash his feet before running out ahead of his colleagues. In the afternoon, Olorien teamed up with Naleku and Sattao in browsing, while Larro and Kuishi took their favourite, Esoit, a distance away from the herd and rejoined later. Lodo, Suguroi, Kinyei, and Kindani came across a bush mud bath and had fun in it before resuming browsing. In the evening, the orphans returned safely to the stockade.
It was a quiet morning with no ex-orphan or wild elephants showing up. Bondeni shared his lucerne with Lodo, while Naleku decided to walk to the browsing field all by herself. She rumbled for some time before her colleagues responded by following her. At the browsing field, Roho teamed up with Kindani in browsing and later shifted to browse with Larro, while Kuishi settled to browse with her favourite, Esoit. Olorien browsed with Lodo, while Mukkoka settled to browse with Kinyei. The rest of the morning was quiet as the orphans browsed calmly, heading to the mud bath.
At mud bath time, the sun was hot, and as soon as the orphans had their milk, Naleku led the team to a nearby bush mud bath. Naleku and Sattao headed for a soil bathing exercise soon after mud bathing. In the afternoon, the sun was still hot, and the orphans took a break from feeding, relaxing under trees until the temperatures dropped to a favourable level. In the evening, on the way back to the stockade, the orphans passed by the Kone dam where they had a cooling-off exercise.
The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. Sana Sana and her favourite, Naboishu, made a brief visit to the stockade. The duo joined the orphans in feeding on lucerne. Naboishu wanted to show off his pushing skills that he has learned over the few weeks he has been living in the wild. Naboishu settled on Kuishi, but Kuishi couldn't allow this upstart junior boy, who is younger than her, to overpower her. At long last, Naboishu surrendered and walked to his friend, Sana Sana.
Sana Sana and Naboishu escorted the orphans to the browsing field. Olorien teamed up with Naboishu in browsing. We believe she was also trying to learn from Naboishu how life has been treating him since he made a firm decision to join the wild. Suguroi didn't want to be left out and also came closer to listen to Naboishu's wild stories. Later, Sattao came and took Naboishu for a strength-testing exercise. Roho had his own game of rolling on the ground, while Bondeni found a suitable rock that he used to scratch his belly.
As the day progressed, the orphans were joined by Roi, Oltaiyoni, Olsekki, Galla, Naseku, Malima, and a teenage wild boy. At eleven o'clock in the morning, the orphans parted ways with the junior ex-orphans. Olorien led the first group to the mud bath. The temperatures were moderate, and soon after having their milk, the orphans walked towards the east where they settled for a bush mud bath. Lodo enjoyed scratching on those who were rolling in mud.
In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse in the Kanziku area. Olorien settled to browse with Roho, while Naleku and Mukkoka dodged the Keepers and their colleagues. In the evening, the duo were nowhere to be seen. The dependent eleven orphans were taken back to the stockade, while the search for the missing two was carried out, and the two were located not far away, browsing in a valley. The Keepers informed the duo that it was time to go back to the stockade for the night. Naleku led Mukkoka as the Keepers trailed them until they returned to the stockade.
As soon as the orphans walked out from the stockade after getting their milk, it started drizzling. Despite the drizzles, everyone settled for lucerne. As they were busy feeding, Naseku, Olsekki, Oltaiyoni, Galla, Musiara, Sana Sana, Naboishu, Roi, and a junior wild boy arrived. The junior ex-orphans joined the orphans in feeding on lucerne. Shortly later, Larro led the orphans to the browsing field, followed by Kinyei, Kindani, and Bondeni. It was still drizzling as they settled.
Bondeni, Suguroi, Esoit, Kuishi, and Kindani took advantage of the wet grounds to have fun by rolling on the ground and smearing themselves with red mud. When the drizzle stopped, the orphans brought their rolling games to an end and concentrated on browsing. At eleven o'clock in the morning, Lodo led Suguroi and Naleku in the first group for the noon bottle feed. The temperatures were low, prompting the orphans to boycott the wallowing exercise. Kinyei led the team into a soil dusting exercise, and thereafter, Kuishi led the way back to the browsing field.
In the evening, at the time of returning to the stockade, Larro was missing. The Keepers tried calling her, but she was not responding. After searching for her in the nearby bushes, Larro was found feeding, totally unconcerned about going back to the stockade. The Keepers took Larro and walked her back to the stockade.
The sky was partly cloudy when the orphans left the stockade in the morning and settled for lucerne. Larro shared her pile of lucerne with Kindani. Lodo and Roho had a conflict that resulted in a fight. When Lodo surrendered, Roho grabbed his tail and bit it. Lodo screamed for help. The Keepers intervened by shouting at Roho to stop biting his colleague's tail. Roho walked away as Lodo felt relieved after the Keepers intervened.
Shortly later, Larro walked down to the water trough followed by Naleku. Kuishi lagged behind, sharing lucerne with Esoit and Bondeni. On the way to the browsing field, Bondeni engaged Esoit in a light morning warm-up exercise. Roho tackled Naboishu, but when the going got tough for him, Roho climbed a rock with his forelegs in an effort to make himself taller and scare Mukkoka. Mukkoka simply gave him time to do his antics, knowing very well that he would eventually climb down.
The orphans settled to browse in the Kone area. Lodo and Roho visited the dam and decided to have fun by jumping into the water for a cooling-off exercise. After having enough fun, the two boys quit to join their colleagues. At mud bath time, the orphans participated fully in the wallowing exercise with the exception of Bondeni, who has become water-unfriendly. Bondeni only washed his legs then came out of the water.
In the afternoon, Kuishi teamed up with Olorien and Esoit in browsing. The rest of the remaining part of the day was quiet as the orphans concentrated more on browsing without any major observations.
The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade in the morning. It was a quiet morning with no ex orphans or wild elephants showing up. When Kinyei had enough, she started dressing herself using the lucerne, throwing it over her body to look like she was wearing a grass dress. Roho engaged Bondeni in a morning warm-up exercise, done in the form of a pushing game. Lodo played with Mukkoka but surrendered when Mukkoka used a lot of energy on him.
At the browsing field, a wonderful surprise awaited us: The orphans were briefly joined by Loijuk; her firstborn, Lili; nannies Siangiki, Mundusi, Kama, Makena, Karisa, and Sita — and a brand new baby! This is Loijuk’s second daughter. We have named her Lisha.
Naleku abandoned feeding and ran to see Loijuk’s new baby. Lili, the older sister, wouldn't allow Naleku to get too close. Loijuk steered her group towards the mud bath while Naleku shadowed them from a short distance. The Keepers had a difficult time containing Naleku, as she was intent upon nannying the new baby. They eventually succeeded in convincing the young orphan to go back and join her colleagues.
The orphans browsed calmly as they slowly headed towards the mud bath. Midway, they came across a bush mud bath, with only Mukkoka and Sattao participating. Olorien led the first group to the midday bottle feeds. After getting their milk, the orphans jumped into the water for a cooling-off exercise. Roho played his usual game of riding on his colleagues whenever they went under the water. After wallowing, Kinyei, Kindani, Sattao, Suguroi, and Lodo settled for a soil dusting exercise.
In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse in the Kanziku area. Suguroi, Esoit, and Kuishi took a break from feeding and relaxed under a tree to hide from the scorching sun. They resumed browsing later when the temperatures dropped to a favourable level. In the evening, Loijuk with her newborn baby and her team passed at the stockade compound as they headed towards Kalovoto.
The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. Roho and Bondeni had a warm-up exercise that was done in the form of a pushing game. Roho took the game further by lying on the ground while still playing with Bondeni. Lodo shared his pile of lucerne with Sattao, while Olorien shared her pile with Naleku. Shortly later, Kuishi walked down to the water trough where she was followed by Larro and Esoit. At the browsing field, the orphans were joined by Musiara and Jotto. Bondeni, Kindani, and Kinyei found loose moist soil that they used to smear themselves by rolling on it. Lodo and Roho, the water boys, visited the Kone dam for a drink and later jumped into the water to have fun.
At eleven o'clock in the morning, Musiara and Jotto escorted the orphans for the noon bottle feed. The orphans had their milk, then returned to the browsing field. The temperatures were low, and this is why the orphans skipped the wallowing exercise. In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse west of Ithumba hill. Jotto and Musiara spent the entire afternoon trying to convince Sattao, Mukkoka, Kuishi, and Larro to join their team. In the evening, Mukkoka nearly joined Jotto and Musiara's team as he lagged behind with the two boys. When he returned to the stockade, Mukkoka was reluctant to enter. The Keepers managed to convince Mukkoka to enter the stockade. Musiara and Jotto left immediately when Mukkoka accepted to enter the stockade.
Mist covered Ithumba Hill as the orphans left the stockade and settled for lucerne. The orphans were joined briefly by Ithumbah, Iman, Kilabasi, Kofi, Olare, Ola, Vuria, and Sagateisa. Kuishi appeared not to be interested in the lucerne, so she walked a distance away and settled to feed on fresh green grass. Bondeni, who has become a big playmate of Roho these days, started teasing Roho. Roho, always ready, swung into full force and locked his trunk with Bondeni, and the game continued. Later, Roho briefly met Sagateisa and tried to find out from her why she had quit the stockade life so early. Sagateisa informed Roho that she found good friends and was comfortable with the decision she took. Sagateisa is now the main nanny to Ola.
Esoit and Larro followed Kuishi, while Naleku led the rest of the team towards the east. Kindani, Bondeni, and Kinyei teamed up together in browsing and later decided to have fun by playing with wet soil. Lodo and Roho had a meeting and shortly later headed to Kone Dam. The two boys were followed by Kinyei and Kindani who watched the two boys having fun in the water. Kuishi brought Esoit later to the dam for water. At mud bath time, only Kindani, Kinyei, Lodo, Mukkoka, Sattao, Roho, and Suguroi participated in wallowing. In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse in the Kanziku area. Larro, Naleku, Suguroi, and Olorien took a break from feeding to relax under a tree until the temperatures dropped to a favourable level. In the evening, the orphans returned safely to the stockade.
Musiara and Jotto joined the orphans in the morning at the lucerne feeding venue. Bondeni and Roho had a morning strength testing exercise before settling to feed on lucerne. Larro, Naleku, and Suguroi led their colleagues to the browsing field soon after having enough lucerne. The orphans settled to browse in the Kone area. Olorien settled to browse with Roho, while Kuishi teamed up with Larro.
Meanwhile, Musiara and Jotto took Mukkoka, Sattao, and Roho with them. These two boys were on a mission to recruit Sattao, Mukkoka, and Roho in their group. By eleven o'clock in the morning, they had not yet succeeded in convincing them, so Jotto and Musiara gave up and left to an undisclosed location. The orphans attended the eleven o'clock milk feeds and thereafter returned back to the browsing field. The afternoon was calm. The sky was cloudy, and in the evening, as the orphans made their way back to the stockade, it started drizzling. The orphans hurried back to the stockade to hide from the rains.
After settling on lucerne, Lodo and Esoit entwined their trunks in morning greetings. Mukkoka engaged Roho in a morning warm-up strength testing exercise. After having enough lucerne, Naleku led the way to the browsing field. The orphans settled to enjoy the lush vegetation.
It's amazing that the vegetation has remained green since the November-December rains. The rains have done wonders. Every month since the beginning of the year has had rain. In January, we had 50mm of rain; February, 66mm; March, 115mm; and this April so far, we have had 78mm.
The orphans browsed calmly up to mud bath time when Olorien led the first group to the mud bath. After taking their eleven o'clock milk, Kindani and Kinyei headed for wallowing while the rest of the group headed for a soil dusting exercise. In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse in the Kanziku area. Sattao settled to browse with Olorien while Mukkoka teamed up with Larro. Roho and Lodo took a break from browsing to engage in a pushing game that lasted for quite some time. In the evening, Kindani led the way back to the stockade.
After settling on lucerne in the morning, Roho and Olorien had a disagreement over a pile of lucerne. Roho picked a fight with Olorien when Olorien took a flake of lucerne that Roho had his eye on. Olorien decided not to argue with Roho and dropped the flake to avoid the conflict escalating further.
Larro had enough of lucerne and walked to the browsing field to enjoy the lush vegetation. Esoit walked to the nearby rocks and enjoyed scratching on them. Mukkoka and Sattao had a morning strength testing exercise as they slowly headed to the browsing field. At the browsing field, Naleku teamed up with Suguroi while Sattao and Mukkoka browsed together after their strength testing exercise. Later, Roho engaged Sattao in a pushing game before walking to browse with Larro.
At mud bath time, Bondeni led the way for the noon bottle feeds. Kinyei, Roho, Sattao, and Olorien headed to drink water after taking their milk. The rest of the group joined them later. After drinking water, the orphans headed for wallowing. Esoit, Bondeni, Larro, and Suguroi boycotted the wallowing exercise. Mukkoka and Roho were the last ones to quit wallowing as they enjoyed a strength testing exercise while still in the water.
In the afternoon, on the way to the browsing field, the orphans met with Jotto and Musiara. They exchanged afternoon greetings with Jotto and Musiara then headed west of Ithumba Hill. The orphans settled to browse there. Jotto and Musiara continued their journey heading north of the mud bath. Bondeni browsed with Roho while Kindani teamed up with Naleku and Suguroi. The rest of the day was quiet as the orphans concentrated on browsing without any major observations.
Enkikwe was outside the stockade when the orphans were let out. Kuishi, Dololo, Sana Sana, Naboishu, Karisa, Mundusi, Neshashi, Sattao, and Mukkoka exchanged morning greetings with Enkikwe by entwining their trunks with him. As the orphans were busy feeding on lucerne, Tumaren, Tembo, Roi, Malima, Jotto, Musiara, Oltaiyoni, Siangiki, Olsekki, and Naseku emerged from the eastern side and joined them. The feeding of lucerne was brief as the orphans decided to give space to the ex-orphans.
Naleku led the way to the browsing field. Esoit and Bondeni started their day activities by engaging in a strength testing exercise. Kuishi teamed up with Larro and Lodo in feeding. The orphans browsed calmly up to mud bath time when Olorien led the first group. The orphans had their milk, then returned back to the browsing field. They settled to browse east of Ithumba Hill. The sun was hot, so Lodo, Roho, Kinyei, Kindani, and Larro visited the Kone Dam for a cooling off exercise. In the evening, the orphans returned safely to the stockades.
Roho and Bondeni had a morning warm-up strength testing exercise soon after leaving the stockade. The orphans settled to feed on lucerne, where Sattao took a break to have a game of rolling on the ground. Kuishi led the way to the browsing field soon after feeding on lucerne. Later, Sattao, Roho, and Mukkoka walked together to the dam and settled for water before resuming to browse. Kuishi, Kindani, and Lodo had a soil dusting exercise, while later, Sattao engaged Roho in a pushing game.
Shortly before mud bath time, Roho teamed up with Lodo and Suguroi and slowly started heading to the mud bath. On the way to the browsing field, the orphans were joined by Yatta, Yetu, Yoyo, Yogi, Kina, Kama, Kaia, and a wild bull. Naleku familiarised herself with Yogi and Yebo, and even at one point tried to run away with Yatta’s group. Roho tried to attack Yoyo, but he couldn't believe it when Yoyo went crazy and drove him away. At mud bath time, Yatta joined the orphans in wallowing and later left with her team to an undisclosed location.
In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse in the Kanziku area. At around four o'clock in the evening, a passing cloud gave way to rain that lasted for only fifteen minutes. An hour later, Bondeni led the way back to the stockades.
The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. Sattao and Mukkoka settled to scratch on nearby rocks, while Kuishi and Olorien shared a pile of lucerne. Roho and Bondeni made the mistake of starting a pushing game in front of Kuishi. Kuishi saw this as an act of disrespect, so she went ahead and punished the two boys by chasing them away.
Naleku was the first one to head for browsing soon after having enough lucerne. Later, her colleagues followed. On their way, the orphans met with Nasalot, Noah, Nusu, and Tusuja. Mundusi, who usually accompanies Nusu and Noah, appears to have been displaced by Tusuja and may have joined another group. There was not much interaction between the orphans and Nasalot's group. Only Roho attempted to challenge Nusu, but Nusu warned him to give way before he showed him his true colours. Roho prudently quit and followed his colleagues.
The orphans settled to browse in the Kone area. They browsed calmly up to mud bath time when Kindani led the first group for the noon bottle feeds. The orphans had their milk then attended the wallowing exercise before Suguroi led the way back to the browsing field. Yatta and her team passed by the mud bath on their way to an undisclosed location.
In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse at the north upper bank of the Kalovoto seasonal river. The sun was hot, and the orphans took cover under the tall trees along the Kalovoto river. The orphans resumed browsing later when the temperatures dropped to a favourable level. In the evening, the orphans returned safely to the stockade.
The sky was clear in the morning when the orphans left the stockades. It appears that the rains have taken a break. Roho and Bondeni had a morning strength testing exercise. Sattao had a morning stretch-up exercise and rolled on the ground for fun. The orphans briefly settled on lucerne and later headed to the browsing field. They settled in the Kone area, an area they really like.
Kindani, Lodo, Kinyei, and Esoit visited the Kone Dam for a drink. Lodo, the water boy, as usual, jumped into the water, just for fun. Esoit walked a distance away soon after drinking water. He found a suitable place to play and started rolling around. His nannies, Kuishi and Kinyei, stood nearby, just in case Esoit needed help.
At mud bath time, the orphans had their milk then headed for wallowing. Kuishi, Larro, Mukkoka, Bondeni, and Olorien boycotted the wallowing exercise, choosing instead to go directly to the dust back. In the afternoon, Larro developed an itching foot. She found a suitable tree stump that she used to alleviate the itching. Lodo teamed up with his water friend Roho in browsing, while the rest of the team scattered all over to browse. In the evening, the orphans returned safely to the stockade.
A lone wild bull was drinking at the stockade water trough when the orphans were let out. He disappeared the moment it saw the Keepers walking down with the orphans. Kindani settled to scratch on her usual rock — that is, until Sattao pushed her out of the way and started to scratch his buttocks. Bondeni and Roho had their morning strength testing exercise. Later, Roho challenged the older and stronger Mukkoka.
In the browsing field, Lodo and Suguroi, who are in the same class and usually get along well, surprised everyone: Out of the blue, the duo started a serious fight. Naleku, who acts as the head of their class, moved quickly and separated Lodo and Suguroi. We still don’t know what caused the disagreement.
Kindani and Kinyei headed to the Kone dam to drink water, while Kuishi and Larro settled to browse together. At eleven o'clock in the morning, Olorien led the way to the mud bath. After getting their noon bottle feeds, the orphans returned to the browsing field.
The afternoon was quiet as the orphans browsed calmly without any major observation. In the evening, Kindani led the way back to the stockade for yet another night.
Rain started early at dawn. It subsided shortly after six o'clock, and the orphans had their milk before walking out to start their day. The grounds were slippery, and the orphans walked carefully to avoid slipping and falling. Bondeni exchanged morning greetings with Roho as they entwined their trunks in a peaceful way. Later, Kuishi led the way to the browsing field, where the orphans had fun playing with the wet soil. Suguroi, Naleku, Kinyei, Roho, Lodo, and Larro had the longest fun. The orphans browsed calmly at Kanziku area up to mud bath time when Kindani led the way for the noon bottle feeds.
There was drama when Roho, after taking his milk, attempted to force his way over to Bondeni. He knows that his friend is a slow drinker and thought he could confiscate his milk. The Keepers intervened to protect the slow drinker. After taking their milk, Kinyei, Lodo, Olorien, and Bondeni walked a distance away to drink rainwater that had collected in a pan. Kuishi joined them and got in to wash her feet.
In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse west of Ithumba hill. Naleku partnered with Olorien, while Larro teamed up with Esoit. The rest of the day was quiet as the orphans browsed calmly without any major observation.
The orphans began their morning with lucerne after leaving the stockade. Larro and Naleku didn't stay long, opting to head to the browsing field for fresh vegetation. They were followed by Kuishi and her favourite, Esoit. Suguroi entertained herself with a game of rolling on the ground. When she finished, she trumpeted happily and ran to the browsing field, with the rest of the group following suit, swinging their trunks in a cheerful manner.
Roho had his own game of sitting with his trunk raised, which caught the attention of Bondeni. Bondeni engaged Roho in a pushing game while he was still on the ground. Later, the orphans settled to browse in the Kone area. They then passed by Kone Dam for a drink before heading for their noon bottle feeds.
Lodo and Roho, along with Esoit, Kuishi, Mukkoka, and Sattao, lagged behind. After having their milk, they headed for a bush mud bath, where they were joined by Nasalot, Nusu, Noah, and Tusuja.
In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse in the Kanziku area, where Mukkoka teamed up with Kinyei in feeding. Lodo, Suguroi, and Naleku had a brief meeting, although no one understood what they were discussing. In the evening, Kindani led the way back to the browsing field.
The sky was partly cloudy when the orphans left the stockade. As usual, they settled for lucerne. Shortly afterward, Naleku led the way to the browsing field. The orphans browsed calmly at the Kone area. The morning was quiet as they browsed close to the Kone dam. Lodo, the water boy, opted to jump into the dam for a cooling off exercise, much to the disbelief of Bondeni, Kindani, Naleku, and Olorien, who watched as the temperatures were low and wondered how Lodo was managing to swim in the cold water.
At eleven o'clock in the morning, Larro led the way to the mud bath for the milk feeds. After having their milk, the orphans returned to the browsing field without participating in a wallowing exercise. Later in the afternoon, Kindani, Suguroi, and Roho came across a bush bath and had fun in it before resuming to browse. In the evening, the orphans passed by the Kone dam and all got into the water for a cooling off exercise. When they were done wallowing, Kinyei led the way back to the stockade.
Naleku, Larro, and Lodo headed straight to the browsing field soon after leaving the stockade. The trio skipped the lucerne feeding exercise because they were craving for the fresh green vegetation. Roho and Bondeni exchanged morning greetings by entwining their trunks. After feeding on lucerne, the orphans followed their colleagues. Kinyei settled to browse with Kindani while Olorien settled to browse with Larro. Bondeni found a suitable rock that he used to scratch his neck.
The orphans browsed calmly as they walked slowly towards the mud bath. At mud bath time, Olorien led the first group to the noon bottle feeds. In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse in the Kanziku area. Larro teamed up with Mukkoka, Kuishi, and Esoit in browsing. Later, Larro moved to join Kinyei and Kindani. Sattao and Kuishi had a disagreement that saw Kuishi give Sattao a stern warning not to ever despise her again. Lodo and Roho moved a distance away from their colleagues. They later rejoined their group at the time of going back to the stockade.
It was drizzling in the morning when the orphans left the stockade. Larro and Roho settled to drink rainwater collected on the ground soon after leaving the stockade. Shortly later, Larro skipped the feeding of lucerne and headed straight to the browsing field. She was followed by Naleku, Suguroi, Mukkoka, and Lodo. Mukkoka had a meeting with Larro at the browsing field as the light rain continued to fall. As the rain continued to fall, Suguroi, who was feeding close to Kinyei, decided to scratch her ear against Kinyei. Kuishi scratched her neck against a tree while Naleku found a suitable rock that she settled on to scratch her buttocks. The rain stopped an hour later.
The orphans browsed in the Kanziku area until eleven o'clock, when Bondeni led the way for the midday milk feeds. The orphans had their milk, and since the rain had washed them, the herd saw no need for wallowing besides the temperatures were still low. In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse east of Ithumba hill. They climbed up the hill about a hundred metres and settled to browse. Kuishi teamed up with Mukkoka while Olorien settled to browse with Kinyei. In the evening, the orphans returned safely to the stockade.
The orphans left the stockade early in the morning as usual soon after getting their milk. They settled for lucerne. Naleku had a few bites of lucerne before walking a distance away and settling on the green vegetation. Sattao and Mukkoka had a morning warm-up strength testing exercise while Roho engaged Bondeni in a pushing game. Shortly later, Larro led everyone to go and join Naleku, who was already enjoying the lush vegetation. As usual, Kuishi teamed up with Esoit in browsing. Sattao, Mukkoka, Lodo, and Roho, who we consider as grown-up boys, split from the main herd and settled to browse a distance away.
The orphans browsed calmly up to eleven o'clock in the morning, when Lodo led the first group to the mud bath. The orphans had their milk then returned to the browsing field where they participated in a bush mud bath. Later in the afternoon, the orphans were joined by Kinna and her two daughters, Kama and Kaia. Kaia interacted with Suguroi as Kama had a conflict with Kuishi that ended in a fight. The girls' fight ended in a draw. In the evening, Kinna and her family escorted the orphans back to the stockade.
Kindani left the stockade in the morning carrying a leftover branch with her trunk. As her colleagues rushed for lucerne, Kindani settled to scratch her buttocks along the wall at the stockade compound while enjoying feeding on the branch.
Suguroi decided to have a game of rolling on the ground as she waited for the distribution of lucerne. Esoit moved closer and enjoyed scratching his belly on Suguroi. Amazingly, our fiery girl tolerated Esoit's behaviour and didn't get upset at all. The pair then walked to the browsing field together. It's not clear whether it is Esoit who is trying to befriend Suguroi or it is Suguroi who is showing interest in caring for Esoit. Only time will tell, because the duo fed together for the entire morning.
Kinyei settled to browse with Lodo while Kindani teamed up with Larro. Bondeni engaged Roho in a pushing game that ended in a draw. Shortly before mud bath time, Suguroi, Lodo, Roho, Naleku, Sattao, Mukkoka, and Kuishi came across stagnated water that they used to splash behind their ears for cooling off. At eleven o'clock in the morning, Olorien led the first group to the mud bath. The orphans had their milk then skipped the wallowing exercise and thereafter returned to the browsing field. In the afternoon, Esoit went back to Kuishi and browsed together throughout the remaining part of the day. Suguroi settled to browse with Kinyei while Larro teamed up with Sattao and Mukkoka. In the evening, Kinyei led the way back to the browsing field.
The orphans were not very interested in the lucerne after they were let out from the stockade. They took small bites then were led away by Kuishi. The orphans settled to browse in the Kanziku area and later changed direction to the Kone area. At around ten o'clock in the morning, Kindani led the team to the Kone dam where they settled for water before heading slowly to the mud bath. Olorien led the first group while Suguroi led the second one. The orphans had their milk then headed for a cooling off exercise. Later on, Roho, Naleku, Kuishi, and Esoit participated in a bush mud bath.
In the afternoon, Larro came across two dik-diks that were fighting. Larro charged and trumpeted. The trumpet scared away the dik-diks. The dik-diks ran away as Larro followed them. The trumpet attracted Roho, Lodo, Suguroi, and Naleku who came to find out what was happening. The four orphans joined Larro in the search for the dik-diks but unfortunately they didn't succeed in finding any of them. The dik-diks had dodged and since they are small, the orphans couldn't locate which direction they had taken. After charging and running around for some time, the orphans got tired and stopped the search for the dik-diks. The orphans resumed browsing hoping to meet the dik-diks before the end of the day but this didn't happen. In the evening, the orphans returned back safely to the stockade.
Suguroi and Naleku were the first ones to leave the stockade after a good night and briefly settled on lucerne before making their way to the browsing field. Kindani and Bondeni were the last ones to leave the lucerne feeding area and ran to catch up with their colleagues. The orphans settled to browse at the Kone dam area. The temperatures were moderate, and the orphans enjoyed feeding on the lush vegetation. It was still wet with many water pans around. Kuishi, Larro, Esoit, Roho, and Olorien came across one of the water pans and settled for a cooling-off exercise by splashing water behind their ears.
On the way to the mud bath, the orphans met with Nasalot, Nusu, Noah, Tusuja, and a wild boy. The orphans exchanged morning greetings with Nasalot's team and thereafter parted ways. The orphans continued their journey to the mud bath while Nasalot and her team headed towards Kalovoto. At eleven o'clock in the morning, the orphans had their milk and thereafter returned to the browsing field. Larro and Esoit had a brief meeting before resolving to join Kuishi in feeding. Bondeni teamed up with Kinyei in browsing while Mukkoka settled to browse with Roho. The rest of the afternoon was quiet as the orphans browsed calmly throughout the remaining part of the day without any major observation.
