This holiday season, spread the love. Gift the adoption of an orphaned elephant, rhino, or giraffe and support our mission to save all creatures, great and small.
In honour of the season of giving, we are delighted to share this special film — a celebration of our Orphans' Project and a poignant reminder of what our mission is all about.
For nearly half a century, we have provided a family and a wild future to every orphan who comes into our care. This is not the work of a few years but a lifetime commitment. While we raise the orphans of today, our field teams work tirelessly across Kenya to protect the habitats they will one day call home.
Even long after reclaiming their place in the wild, we remain part of our orphans’ family. It has become a time-honoured tradition for our ex-orphans to return home after giving birth, simply to share the joy with the people who raised them. This time of year is always full of such happy reunions — our version of 'home for the holidays'!
By gifting the adoption of an orphan in our care, you help make these stories possible. Our adoption program is entirely digital, making it eco-friendly and easily deliverable on a date of your choosing. Recipients are notified of their gift via email, on the date selected by the giver. They will receive:
- One-year adoption of an orphaned animal in our care
- A personalised adoption certificate
- Orphans’ Project monthly emails and special updates, sent via email
- Downloadable images of their adopted orphan
- Access to the latest Keepers’ Diaries and orphan updates
- Downloadable wildlife watercolours by Angela Sheldrick
- Exclusive access to monthly videos
If you're having trouble selecting an orphan to adopt, we suggest choosing one at our Nairobi Nursery or Kaluku Neonate Unit, so your recipient can be part of their orphan's journey from the very beginning.
Above, we have rounded up some of the youngest orphans currently in our care:
- Korbessa: Our ‘little frog’ runs the show and has a distinctive frog-like way of sitting.
- Chamboi: Rhinos are known for being sedate, but he can run at levitating speeds!
- Wamata: Rescued in September, she is still learning the ropes but shines in the mud bath.
- Olomunyak: Little ‘Ollie’ loves sneaking home early and suckling his Keepers’ fingers.
- Twiggy: This kindhearted giraffe is everyone’s nanny and a great favourite of the smaller orphans.
- Pardamat: Our resident rascal is constantly causing mischief, especially during milk feeds.
These are just a few of the faces in our herd. With over 100 orphans currently dependent on our care — and generations now thriving in the wild — there are so many more to meet!
