Orphans' Project

Rescuing orphan elephants, rhinos, and other species, raising them with specialist care, and reintegrating them into a protected wilderness

At the heart of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is the Orphans’ Project — a pioneering rescue, rehabilitation, and rewilding programme that has given hundreds of orphaned elephants and rhinos a second chance at life in the wild.

The Orphans’ Project exists to offer hope for Kenya’s elephants and rhinos — animals still poached for their ivory and horn, and increasingly threatened by habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and drought. Every orphan we raise is a life saved and another step toward securing a future for their species in the wild.
