In the last six months of operation the Kenya Wildlife Service/David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s Sky Vets program has deployed KWS Veterinarians to all corners of the country including Lamu on Kenya’s remote northern coastline, to the Ndoto Mountains in the Northern Frontier, Amboseli, the Chyulu Hills, Tsavo East and West, the Masai Mara, Shimba Hills, Samburu and Meru National Park, just to name a few.
In this time Sky Vets has managed to treat 27 emergency wildlife cases which would have otherwise gone without treatment ultimately saving the animals life. Most of these cases involved elephants injured by poisoned arrows, snares and spears. The program has proven extremely successful, effectively deploying available wildlife veterinarians to animals on site where they are needed the most.
