With the Tsavo region currently experiencing its driest months of the year, food and water have become more scarce and cases of wildlife deaths will increase mainly due to natural deaths of old and very young herbivores.
Wildlife cases handled in the region in the month of August 2019 include several wildlife deaths from suspected Anthrax (not confirmed) in Ngulia valley, Tsavo West. In Tsavo East an elephant cow was euthanized near Voi gate and another young bull had to be euthanized in the Aruba water hole after it fell into the water trough after a motor vehicle accident. Other cases included the treated of a lion for a snare wound on its neck, an elephant bull was treated for arrow wound, an autopsy was undertaken on an elephant cow carcass and finally an autopsy was undertaken on a lioness carcass.
