The dry season continues to ravage the Tsavo Ecosystem with most waterholes dry and severe forage scarcity. As the drought continues, November saw the rescue of many elephant calves that were too weak to walk and were collapsing all over the southern part of Tsavo East National Park.
Several other herbivores were also affected by the drought, including elands, buffaloes, impala, hartebeest and wildebeest. The rains are expected in early December and it will come as a great relief to the suffering wildlife. The Unit also treated 4 injured elephant bulls as well as 1 elephant cow for 2 spear wounds to the thorax as well as other elephant cases including post-mortems. In Tsavo East an eland was rescued after it strayed into standard gauge railway fencing and a pangolin was rescued from controlled burning.
