March was not a favourable month in the animals' calendar. The scorching sun saw the green colouration of the Tsavo ecosystem quickly fade, accompanied by diminished water flow in streams, reduced ground water availability. The subsequent shortage of food and water creating serious challenges for many different species.
During March, the Veterinary Unit treated a lame zebra, a giant elephant bull for a spear wound, as well as two lions; one for buffalo wounds and the other for crocodile inflicted wounds. A lioness was successfully relocated from a human settlement near Amboseli National Park and two other lions were collared in Taita Sanctuary. The Team was also involved in the rescue of an abandoned buffalo calf in Ngutuni Safari Lodge.
