July saw a substantial drop in the water levels of the permanent rivers throughout the Tsavo Ecosystem. Most waterholes and seasonal rivers changed from their soothing ripples to sullen and ominous silence.
The SWT/KWS Tsavo Mobile Veterinary Unit attended to 12 cases during the month, including 8 elephant cases. One was treated for lameness, another for a snare and 3 for penetrating wounds. Another elephant was rescued after he fell into a pit latrine. The team also translocated an elephant bull in Kibwezi. A male cheetah, a security dog and a female waterbuck were also attended to for various ailments.
