The SWT/KWS Tsavo Veterinary Unit attended to four separate cases in February, involving two elephants, a giraffe and a lion.
During February, the Vet Unit attended a giraffe with an arrow wound, which was successfully treated on Rukinga Ranch. The team also undertook autopsy examinations of 2 elephant carcasses in the Chyulu Hills after reports of deaths of elephants in the area. One of these was deemed to be natural, due to territorial fights, and the other was concluded to be from a penetrating spear wound. A third autopsy was carried out during the month, on a lion near Lake Jipe and the cause of death was most likely from poisoning.
