During August, the SWT/KWS Tsavo Mobile Veteterinary Unit attended to various cases spread throughout the vast ecosystem. Many of the cases were the result of illegal snaring and natural causes.
The Unit attended to the snaring of a hyena near Voi town and snared zebras in Lamu and Mgeno ranch. A former orphan elephant, rescued and raised by the SWT and living wild in Tsavo East National Park, was treated for lion attack injuries, but sadly succumbed at a later date. Seven elephant bulls causing damage to water infrastructure in the Ngulia Rhino sanctuary were translocated to Tsavo West National Park. An orphaned elephant was rescued from Lualenyi ranch, Tsavo while autopsies were performed on an elephant bull and a giraffe in Tsavo West and Borabora Conservancy respectively.
