During the month of March 2021, the SWT/KWS Mount Kenya Wildlife Veterinary unit attended to 17 wildlife cases that required veterinary intervention in the Laikipia ecosystem and Mt. Kenya region.
Some of the wildlife veterinary cases attended to included the treatment of a giraffe with lameness and a shoulder dislocation, attending to two elephants with injuries that had been caused by natural events, and successfully assisting a lion with multiple bite wounds. During March, the Unit visited Ol Pejeta conservancy on two occasions to assist with the Northern White Rhino Implantation Project. The Team also visited Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy for various cases involving 8 mountain bongos.
