Area covered

This month the team patrolled the Athi River and the Mtito River up stream as these two rivers form the boundary between the park and the community land.

Findings

We noticed that there has been a decrease in the number of animals in these areas. In the past months their numbers had increased due to the fact that the water holes deeper in the park have been dried up causing the animals to go in search of water and better grazing areas. With the rains the water holes are filling up and the park is becoming greener thus the animals are moving back into the parks interior. We feel that the rains will also bring a decrease in the amount of poaching and snaring taking place as everyone will is busy tending to their farms.

We have transplanted the seedlings into polythene bags and as of next month will begin distributing them to the various communities in the area. We also tended to the trees around the trust house which are thriving.
