Area Covered

This month we did our usual patrols along the Mtito river boundary as well as upstream of the Athi and the surrounding farms Findings

We managed to recover a total of 34 snares that targeted the smaller animals. Among the snares 11 were found along the Mtito river while the rest were collected in the other areas. We observed a large amount of honey harvesting at one farm and we reported it to the manager. Another farm manager also collected 12 snares while patrolling his land. This is an area which we are constantly checking, the main reason for this is that it is a pathway to the river and so cattle grazers who are taking their cattle to drink are sometimes tempted to set snares. The area as a whole is very dry at the moment and so we are making regular visits to the community to ensure that they are not starting to poach again.

With regards to tree planting, the seedlings are doing very well and are almost ready for transplanting. Sports in the community have brought together the youth who are now always busy and getting more involved in sports clubs.
