14 SNARES COLLECTED
Area covered
This month the team patrolled the usual areas as well as the Mtito River and its streams.
Findings
During our patrols we were able to remove a total of 14 snares, 12 of which from along the Mtito River and two from Martin Fosters farm. 10 of the snares targeted small game and the remaining 4 targeting medium sized game. We have found that snaring in the areas that we visited has declined over the past few months.
We concentrated our de-snaring activities along the rivers and streams as it is in these areas that snares are usually laid. The number of wild animals in the area, especially small and medium sized game has increased over the past few months. We expect the rains to begin next month so many of the communities are busy tending to their farms and preparing them for the coming rains.
The Peregrine de-snaring team has also been working on clearing the road from the airstrip to Kambi ya Mawe and expects to complete this task soon.
