Area Covered

Our usual area of operation was patrolled. The operation was done on a daily basis along the Athi River and the Mtito River upstream.

Findings

As the new year begins so do more problems. Snaring is up and down depending on the season, with the lack of rainfall at the end of the year snaring was on the increase. The wildlife seems to have moved up stream and into the park for water and greener pastures so we saw very few wild animals but collected the usual amount of snares, a total of 63. We have been in and out of the communities and it is apparent that the end of last year saw farm produce very low indeed. One of the neighbouring farms reported to us that a few boys were found on the farm tryinig to kill smaller animals such as Dik-diks. The parents were then paid a visit and informed of this unacceptable behaviour, hopefully the boys will not do it again. We found something very unusual this month, the athi river seems to be turning a strange colour green in some parts and we have found a number of dead fish, something that points to pollution in the river.

The community projects are moving along, the trees planted are doing well and sports competitions are underway once again.
