The Ithumba Team operates in the northern sector of Tsavo East National Park, as well as the neighbouring community area to the north.
The terrain in this region is varied, with rocky hills, seasonal water courses and thickly vegetated scrub. Illegal activities encountered here include snaring for the bushmeat trade, ivory poaching, livestock encroachment and cutting of trees for timber. The team is also tasked to protect the area surrounding the SWT Ithumba elephant Reintegration Unit.
The report below provides an overview of the activity of all our De-Snaring Teams in June 2019, with a more detailed description of the Ithumba Team's operational activities in the period.
