The Chyulu Team operates in the southern sector of the Chyulu Hills National Park, as well as the surrounding community areas and ranches.
The Chyulu Hills are covered in montane forest and grassy slopes which descend into dry lowland scrub interspersed with rocky lava flows. This is challenging terrain to patrol and the team makes use of their 4x4 vehicle, aerial support and foot patrols to adequately cover the area. Illegal activities encountered here include snaring for the bushmeat trade, marijuana cultivation, livestock encroachment and cutting of trees for timber and to make charcoal. This report provides an overview of the activity of all our De-Snaring Teams in April 2020, with a more detailed description of the Chyulu Team's operational activities in the period.
