The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. Kinyei shared her lucerne with Kindani, while Esoit shared with Kuishi. Afterwards, Sattao led the way to the browsing field. There, Kindani had a misunderstanding with Roho that resulted in a pushing game. Kinyei settled to browse with Sattao while Kuishi and Larro teamed up with their favourite Esoit. The stubborn Olorien settled to browse with Mukkoka and Lodo.
At mud bath time, the sun was hot and as soon as the orphans had their milk, Kinyei led the team into the water. The orphans had a prolonged wallow due to the heat of the day. Only Sattao didn't participate fully in the wallowing; he washed his feet and then came out. In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse west of Ithumba Hill. The temperatures were still high and the orphans took a break from browsing to relax under a tree. The orphans resumed to browse later when the temperatures dropped to a favourable level. The orphans browsed calmly throughout the remaining part of the day.
Newly independent orphans Jotto Musiara and Dololo joined the herd in the morning for lucerne. Musiara and Dololo appeared tired and opted for a standing nap, leaning on a rock in the lucerne feeding venue. After the orphans were through with feeding on lucerne, Kinyei led the way to the browsing field. Naleku teamed up with Suguroi and Olorien in browsing while Sattao teamed up with Mukkoka and Bondeni in browsing.
The day was getting hot and the orphans browsed calmly as they slowly walked towards the mud bath. At eleven o'clock in the morning, Kindani led the way to the noon bottle feed. Shortly later, Bondeni was joined by Kinyei in scratching. In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse in the Kone area. The sun was still hot, so Lodo and Suguroi looked for a water hole that they used for a cooling off exercise. In the evening, Bondeni led the way back to the stockade.
Wendi, Wema, and Wimbi joined the orphans in the morning. Naleku welcomed Wema and Wimbi, but the girls were quite unfriendly to her. It seems that they have inherited their mothers behaviour. Roho, who was close to Naleku, decided to defend his friend and teach the two girls a lesson by giving them a shove. Prudently, he kept a close eye on their mother — no one wants the wrath of Wendi!
After having enough lucerne, Kindani headed for a drink before heading to the browsing field. The sky was clear in the morning and this was an indication of a hot day ahead. The orphans settled to browse in the Kone area. It was a quiet morning as the orphans browsed calmly up to mud bath time when Olorien led the first group to the noon bottle feeds. The orphans settled for lucerne immediately after leaving the stockade. Jotto, Musiara, and Dololo, who spend their nights out, joined their colleagues. Upon having enough lucerne, Larro walked down to the water trough to wash down her lucerne with a drink. She was joined by Mukkoka and Lodo.
Later, Suguroi led the way to the browsing field. Esoit and Bondeni started their day’s activities by engaging in a strength testing exercise that ended in a draw. Kinyei teamed up with Kindani and Lodo in browsing. Later, the orphans were joined by a junior wild bull that didn't stay for long. With the presence of the Keepers, the junior wild bull became uncomfortable and so decided to leave to an undisclosed location. The weather was chilly and the orphans browsed calmly as they headed towards the mud bath.
At eleven o'clock in the morning, the orphans had their milk, then jumped into the water to wallow. Only Bondeni totally refused to get into the water. After wallowing, Kuishi, Olorien, Sattao, and Lodo walked to the water trough. The rest of the herd settled for a soil dusting exercise. In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse in the Kone area. The temperatures were moderate and the orphans browsed calmly throughout the remaining part of the day.
Immediately after settling for lucerne, the orphans were joined by Nasalot, Noah, and Nusu. Kindani started her day by scratching on a nearby rock as Mukkoka and Lodo performed a warm up strength testing exercise that saw Lodo emerge as the loser. Naleku, Suguroi, and Olorien interacted briefly with Noah. When the orphans had enough lucerne, Larro led the way to the browsing field, while Nasalot and her family headed west of the stockade.
The orphans settled to browse in the Kone area. Olorien and Roho visited Kone dam and had water before resuming to browse. Suguroi came across a loose soil that she used to have a soil dusting exercise while Naleku Roho and Larro teamed up together in browsing. Later, Kindani led the way to the mud bath. The temperatures were moderate and only Kinyei, Lodo, Kindani, Roho, Sattao, and Naleku wallowed. After wallowing, the orphans participated in a soil dusting exercise. In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse west of Ithumba Hill. Kinyei found a suitable tree that she used to scratch her itchy ear. Lodo engaged Roho into a pushing game that ended in a draw. In the evening, Kindani led the way back to the stockade.
The sky was clear in the morning and this was an indication of a hot day ahead. Larro headed straight to the water trough to drink water before coming back to join her colleagues. Kindani settled to scratch her belly on a nearby rock. She was joined by Bondeni and shared the rock in scratching. Kuishi led the way to the browsing field.
At the browsing field, Roho and Lodo engaged each other into a pushing game. Their pushing game lasted for quite some time before Sattao intervened and separated the two boys. At the mud bath, the orphans were joined by Nasalot, Noah, Nusu, Chyulu, Cheka, Charli, Kitirua, Mundusi, and Rapsu. Suguroi and Naleku had a brief meeting with Noah before jumping into the water. Nusu, Kitirua, and Mundusi joined the orphans in wallowing.
Later, the ex-orphans parted ways with the orphans. Kindani, Naleku, Lodo, Bondeni, and Kinyei came across a drying water hole that they used the mud to smear themselves. The rest of the remaining part of the day was quiet as orphans browsed calmly without any major observation.
Esoit was the first one to get out in the morning after getting his milk. He was met outside by his big sister, Kuishi. The orphans settled for lucerne and later Olorien led the way to the browsing field. Bondeni and Roho had a brief strength testing exercise as Mukkoka Sattao and Lodo teamed up to browse. Ndiwa joined the orphans in the morning session and later escorted them to the mud bath.
At mud bath time, Ndiwa encouraged the orphans to participate in wallowing by leading them into the water. Afterwards, she led everyone for soil dusting lessons. With this teaching moment over, Ndiwa bid the orphans goodbye and left to look for her friends.
The orphans settled to browse east of Ithumba Hill. The sun was hot in the afternoon and the heat prompted everyone to take a break from feeding. They settled under a tree to cool off and resumed to browse later when the temperatures dropped to a favourable level. In the evening, Nasalot, Noah, Nusu, Makena, Kasigau, Yatta, Yetu, Yoyo, Yogi, Yebo, Sunyei, Siku, Saba, Jotto, Musiara, and Dololo made a brief stopover at the stockade as they headed to undisclosed location. On the way back to the stockade, the orphans passed at Kone dam where they participated in cooling off exercise before proceeding back home.
Kitirua, Chyulu, Charli, Cheka, Sunyei, Siku, Saba, Vuria, Kilabasi, and Kofi arrived in the morning immediately after the orphans were let out. Naleku had a brief interaction with Saba while Olorien decided to pester Cheka. Perturbed by her behaviour, Cheka ran over to his mum. Olorien didn't follow Cheka, because she knew that he would report her to his mother. Kinyei familiarised herself with Kofi as Bondeni settled to play with Esoit.
After deciding she had had enough lucerne, Chyulu started walking away with her family. Naleku made sure that she was not left behind, as she wanted to be a nanny to Charli. It took the Keepers much effort of convincing Naleku to abandon that group and walk with her colleagues. It took lots of persuasion, but the Keepers managed to entice Naleku to return to her colleagues — she is too young to be a wild-living nanny!
At the browsing field, Mukkoka settled to browse with Sattao as Lodo settled to play with Roho. At mud bath time, the temperatures were moderate and only Kinyei, Lodo, Kindani, and Esoit participated fully in the wallowing exercise. Later, Nasalot, Noah, Nusu, and Mundusi made a brief stopover at a mud bath with. The three boys opted for a wallowing exercise as Nasalot watched over them. Aew minutes later, Nasalot rumbled, calling the boys to quit. Only Noah came out and followed his mother. Mundusi and Nusu followed later, after having enough of wallowing.
In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse east of Ithumba Hill. Kuishi and Larro teamed up with their favourite Esoit in browsing, while Lodo, Mukkoka, Roho, and Olorien came across a water hole and used the water in it to splash water behind their ears in a cooling off exercise. Later in the evening, Bondeni led the first group back to the stockade.
Yetu, Yebo, Yatta, Yoyo, Yogi, Sunyei, Siku, Saba, Naisula, Nyx, Naseku, Zurura, and four wild bulls showed up in the morning and joined the orphans for breakfast. Yebo threatened to push Esoit but was blocked by Roho, who was standing close by. Olorien had a misunderstanding with Siku that resulted in a fight. A quick intervention by Kuishi saved the day. Kuishi separated the two girls, and fiery Olorien got upset and walked away. After having enough lucerne, Suguroi led the way to the browsing field.
At the browsing field, the orphans met with Wendi and her youngest daughters, Wema and Wimbi. Lucky enough, Wendi appeared to have woken up in a good mood. She didn't bother with anyone or anything. Her kids briefly interacted with Roho, Suguroi, and Naleku before following their mother. It was a welcome change to have such an uneventful interaction with Wendi!
At mud bath time, the temperatures were moderate and led by Kinyei, the orphans participated in a spectacular wallowing. Roho had a game of riding on Lodo in water while Kindani displayed her wallowing skills, sitting and doing somersaults in water. In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse in the Kanziku area. At eleven o'clock in the morning, Kinyei led the first group to the noon bottle feed. In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse at Kanziku area. In the evening, the orphans returned back safely to stockade for yet another night.
Yetu, Yebo, Nasalot, Nusu, Noah, Mundusi, Yatta, Yogi, and Yoyo joined the orphans at the lucerne feeding in the morning. Shortly later, two wild bulls arrived in search of Yetu, who appeared to be in season. Yetu was not in the mood and started running when she saw the two bulls approaching. It is interesting to note that many females are coming into season even before their babies attain the age of two years. Yebo is only one year and three months old, meaning he might get a brother or a sister before he is even four years old, if his mother conceives this time. This is not unheard-of — Sidai gave birth when her first kid, Sita, was only two years old, meaning Sidai conceived shortly after delivering her first. But still, it is unusual.
Naleku had enough of lucerne and decided to walk away and enjoy vegetation a distance away from the stockade. Sattao followed later, joined by the rest of the team members. At the browsing field, Mukkoka had a strength testing exercise with Sattao while Bondeni played with Esoit. Esoit soon quit the game, prompting Bondeni to search for Roho. Roho accepted his invitation to play and the two boys had a pushing game that lasted for quite some time.

This evening, Barsilinga appeared at the stockades after more than a month away. We quickly realised he had a small wound, likely from an arrow or a spear. It was too late to do a veterinary treatment that night, but the Kaluku Headquarters was called and an operation was organised for the following morning.
Malima, Jotto, Musiara, Dololo, Wiva, Mulika, Nusu, Nasalot, Noah, Ndiwa, Barsilinga, and Mkuu joined the orphans in the morning. We were happy to see Barsilinga in attendance. The Aerial Unit and Mobile Vet Unit were called, and a treatment was mobilised.
As the feeding on lucerne was in progress, Nabulu, Naboishu, and Sana Sana emerged from the eastern side. They were running quickly, which scared the entire group, who also started running towards the west. The Keepers called the herd and managed to calm them down. Roho engaged Mkuu in a pushing game as Barsilinga played with Nusu.
Shortly later, the ex-orphans went on their way, leaving Malima, Ndiwa, and our patient Barsilinga behind. At around nine thirty in the morning, the treatment commenced. The injury was the result of a spear. The wound was very deep, but fortunately it did not compromise the joint or bone. After thoroughly cleaning out the injury and administering antibiotics, Barsilinga was up and on his way. He immediately left for an undisclosed location. He got to his feet and then strode off into the bush.

At the browsing field, Roho settled to browse with Bondeni while Olorien settled to browse with Suguroi. The orphans settled to browse in the Kone area as they slowly headed to the mud bath. At mud bath time, the orphans were joined by nearly all the ex-orphans. The ex-orphans participated fully in wallowing while the orphans avoided the wallowing due to congestion.
In the afternoon. Sagateisa — who left two weeks ago to babysit Olare’s newborn, Ola — was present. We tried to get her and Neshashi to re-join the dependent herd, but the girls quickly rebelled and ran back to rejoin the ex-orphans. Clearly, they are very happy with their wild lives!

Iman had it rough when she attempted pushing Mukkoka. Mukkoka didn't spare her but knocked her to the ground then walked away as if nothing had happened. This was to woodwink Ithumbah that he was not responsible for what had happened to her baby. Lucky enough, Iman didn't scream as she understood that she was the one who messed up with Mukkoka.
Kuishi, Larro, Naleku, and Suguroi headed to the water trough soon after having enough lucerne. Kuishi then set the pace of walking to the browsing field. On the way, Kuishi met a wild bull and stopped to say hi. The bull was hostile and didn't acknowledge her greetings but instead threatened to push her. Kuishi wished the bull well before continuing with her journey.

The orphans were scared of Mulika and therefore abandoned their mission of harassing Mkuu.
