Area of Operation

Our usual area of operation was patrolled and as noted in the August report this is the peak snaring period.

Findings

This month we have managed to keep up the pressure and lifted 19 snares. The snares were laid down on the farms after they had been patrolled, then we served the farmers with the reports we had written. This we hope made the farm owners issue stern warnings to their respective staff who were the main culprits.

Community Project

The tree nursery down at the trust land is doing fine after transplanting the seedlings into plastic bags. They will be distributed to the community when the short rains start next month.

On 28th September we noticed that a large number of fish in the Athi river were dying and so we notified the relevant authorities to investigate.

The duiker and lesser kudu being reared at Kaluku are doing fine. They readily feed on the vegetation and when the rains break we expect the duiker will go. The kudu is too young and weak to leave.
