Area of Operation

Our usual area of operation was patrolled and we participated in a joint operation and road opening with the Ithumba desnaring team.

Findings

For the last 10 days of this month, we assisted the Ithumba Team with road repairs. We managed to open a stretch of 84 kms of road from the junction of Tsavo River with Athi River up to Gazi. From Tsavo Safari Camp downwards the animal population increases, but the situation was pathetic as we moved upwards towards Gazi. Poachers have snared virtually all the animals on the lower sides of the Yatta near the river and now they go up to the top of the Yatta to snare. This was evident from the many paths which they have made leading to the top of the Yatta.

The first part of the month was spent patrolling our usual area – the private land. As stated in the June and July reports, it is peak snaring time and the situation is not good. We lifted 88 snares, all meant for small animals.
